Ceramic Coating is a liquid polymer that is applied by hand, and that chemically bonds with the vehicle’s factory paint on a molecular level, creating a layer of protection and increasing shine. It is applied after the vehicle is properly prepped. Ceramic coatings are different from traditional waxes or sealants in that the protection does not wash away or break down, and does not require repeated application every few months.
When many people hear the term “paint correction”, they may think of things like fixing rock chips, repainting panels after a car accident, and so on, but in the detailing community, this is not what we mean by paint correction. Paint correction is the process of using a machine polisher with various pad types, compounds, and polishes to remove or greatly reduce blemishes in the vehicle’s finish, such as swirl marks, oxidation, fine scratches, stains, and water spot etching.
Stage 1 (Paint Enhancement)
It’s a single stage machine polish given to bring the gloss and shine back to the paintwork. It's intended to remove small marring and swirl marks that are lightly removed, leaving you with a shiny, glossy finish. In the detailing world, we call this paint enhancement and is designed for vehicle's that don't require full paint correction, and won't break the bank.
Stage 2
When the car’s paint has moderate or medium swirl marks and scratches that are embedded in the clear, stage 2 is the next progression. At this point, you’re going to use (2) different compounds and pad combinations. Typically – it starts by using a more abrasive compound first, then stepping down to a finer polish and pad, to remove any light scratches left by the first step.
Stage 3
This is a three-step program, where the car’s paint job has heavy swirl marks, marring, or other defects. The first step involves using a heavy cutting compound, with a machine polisher and polishing pad – to really dig into that paint damage. The second step progressively decreases the grit, and finally, a light polishing compound should smooth out the damage.
